Behind the Book

Behind the Book ’s mission is to inspire New York City public school students to love reading by bringing accomplished authors and their books into classrooms and creating rich, innovative literacy programs. Our programs take place in underserved public schools, are part of the class curricula and meet the Common Core Learning Standards.

Southside Family Nurturing Center

Southside Family Nurturing Center was founded in 1974 on the belief that child abuse and neglect are preventable. With modest beginnings in the basement of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on Chicago Avenue, we now serve approximately 50 families each year at our center in the Phillips community. As one of the first private, not-for-profit agencies to implement holistic family treatments in the state of Minnesota, SSFNC has celebrated many great accomplishments over our 40-year history.

Peddie School

Guided by the confidence of our motto, “We Finish Our Labors to Begin Them Anew,” Peddie School is committed to the intellectual, social, and moral growth of each of our students. We welcome individuals with diverse talents and backgrounds whose excitement, curiosity and character create an educational community where passion for learning grows. With enthusiasm, humor, and patience, we challenge our students to reach beyond their expectations and to define success by the progress they make. In this boarding school environment we not only prepare our students for the rigors and rewards of college, but also inspire each to strive for the highest quality of citizenship.

Congregation B'nai Jeshurun

B’nai Jeshurun is a nonaffiliated Jewish synagogue community that strives to experience God’s presence by praying, studying, teaching, volunteering, celebrating, and caring for each other and our world. Our services are joyful, musical, socially progressive, and accessible, weaving together tradition with contemporary life.
